Bernedoodles

Our main goal is to ensure the health and well-being of our pups from the time they are born until they find their new homes.

Bernedoodle Overview

Do you love Bernese Mountain Dogs with their loyalty, friendliness, and great attitude, but don’t appreciate much they shed? Bernedoodle puppies are a great solution to this problem.

Bernedoodles are considered a designer crossbreed since they are a cross between a Poodle and a Bernese Mountain Dog, Bernedoodle puppies bring the intelligence and lower allergy levels from Poodles and the companionship and cheer from Bernese Mountain Dogs.

Temperament

Companionship: Bernedoodles are one of the top crossbreeds in craving attention, love, and care from humans. They want to be with people whenever possible. It doesn’t matter if they are getting brushed, snuggling on a couch, playing fetch, or going on car rides!

Loyal: Showing strong traits from the Bernese Mountain Dog, Bernedoodles are wonderful with families and children.

Playful: Known for having a fun and goofy sense of humor. They enjoy spending time doing any activity with their owners.

Intelligent: A smart breed that quickly adapts to various situations, the Bernedoodle can be easily trained that matches well with the intelligence of the Poodle.

Size

Bernedoodles come in three sizes based on the size Poodle used.

Micro/ Toy Bernedoodles: 12-17 inches in height and 10-24 pounds in weight.

Mini Bernedoodles: 18-22 inches in height and 25-49 pounds in weight.

Allergen Level

As Poodles are used in the breeding, many make the assumption that Bernedoodles will be completely allergy-free.

Allergens are caused by dead skin cells, also known as pet dander. Any animal, including humans, shed these dead cells. While Bernedoodles shed less than Bernese Mountain Dogs, this does not completely eliminate dander or allergens.

One of the factors of the Bernedoodle’s allergen level is the coat. Some coats will be thicker and wavier, while others will have shorter and curlier hair. Because Bernedoodles are crossbred, it is difficult to know how the puppy’s haircoat will come in as they grow.

Grooming

Bernedoodle’s hair is like a Poodles. Although, they do require attention, brushing, and grooming.

Bernedoodles should be brushed several times a week. They should also be trimmed several times a year.

History

The Bernedoodle breed is a crossbreed that came about in the early 2000s.

The goal with Bernedoodles was to have a good companion dog that was a low shedding hypoallergenic pet. The result is a designer dog that combines the intelligence and hypoallergenic traits of the Poodle with the loyalty and companionship of the Bernese Mountain Dog.

The poodle breed also helps stabilize some of the health concerns of the Bernese Mountain Dog.

F1B Mini Bernedoodles

They have a higher level of non-shedding characteristics, making them more suitable for families with moderate to severe allergies. Their hair tends to be more curly, wavy, and plush. Typically, they will be 16-18” tall and weigh 30-45 pounds.

F1B2 Toy or Mini Bernedoodles

F1B2 Toy or Mini Bernedoodles are created by crossbreeding a F1B Mini Bernedoodle to a Mini or Toy Poodle. This will result in around an 87.5% Poodle and 12.5% Bernese Mountain Dog. These pups will have the highest amount of hypoallergenic qualities along with the least amount of shedding. This is due to the high amount of Poodle in their DNA. They will have more curly hair and need brushed more frequently due to the low shedding. They can also be considered Multi-generation Bernedoodles due to being past their being past their second generation of offspring. Size would be between 12-18” and 10-35 pounds, depending on the size of the male Poodle.
